If your questions are not answered here, feel free to contact Dr. Tom Whittington at TomWhittingtonDC@aol.com How much care will I need? What will happen if I don’t follow my recommended care plan? What can I expect from my care? How does it work? Why do I feel a “lightness” or pleasant sensation after my adjustments? Will you give me exercises or stretches to do? How much will this cost? Do you take my insurance? All recommended care plans are determined on a case-by-case basis. The frequency of visits that I will initially recommend is based on your history and examination and is tailored to your individual situation. I usually start with a recommendation of six visits to see how you progress. Periodic reevaluations and consultations ensure that your recommended care plan is the most effective one for your healing process and progress. What will happen if I don’t follow my recommended care plan? Your recommended care plan is carefully designed to maximize the benefits of chiropractic for your unique situation. Often I find that people who do not follow their care plan end up spending much more time and energy in the long run just to get the same benefits as someone who stays committed to their care plan. Remember, your care plan is tailored to you it is designed help you heal as quickly as possible. What can I expect from my care? How does it work? [Top of page] When you first begin care, the focus will be on relaxing your spine and the muscles around it while also working with your nervous system to improve alignment and flexibility. During this time, we will work together to help your body recover from past injuries and trauma as well as stresses and strains that may be related to your present pain or symptom. As your symptoms resolve, you will transition into the corrective phase of care. During this second phase, your body will become better equipped to maintain good alignment and release spinal tension. As your spinal health improves, your body learns to hold itself in more healthful postures. Or, It learns to correct posture and positioning before a problem or symptom grabs your attention. And, it gets even better! Many people graduate beyond the corrective phase into ongoing wellness care so they can continue to benefit from the wonderful sense of vitality and well being that this form of chiropractic offers. Why do I feel a “lightness” or pleasant sensation after my adjustments?
Will I need x-rays? [Top of page] This, too, is determined on a case-by-case basis. We do not use X-rays as a routine screening tool. We only recommend them if your particular situation suggests that they would give us additional information. If, during your examination, we determine that X-rays are necessary, we will refer you to a local imaging center. If you have concerns about X-rays, or whether or not you will need them, please let us know. Will you give me exercises or stretches to do? [Top of page] Yes, at the right time in your healing process. Many people who are in pain feel there must be a magic exercise or stretch that will help them feel better. It is my opinion that exercises and stretches are most effective when done as part of a daily routine. While recovering from acute trauma, I often recommend walking only or some other form of gentle exercise or stretching that may already be a part of your lifestyle. Later, as your body heals and becomes more flexible, I may recommend exercises or stretches to enhance your health. What about my posture? [Top of page] Assessing your current posture and helping you to correct and improve it is one of my big interests and joys in my chiropractic practice. I feel that even the most basic postural coaching helps you learn to correct it yourself, and to experience a transformation in your spine that can last a lifetime. Often, when beginning care, many people get excited about, and want to have, good posture. They really understand the benefit. However, they find that their spines are too stiff to actually get into and hold a good posture. When I help them to stand in an optimal posture for the first time, it can feel very unnatural. However over time, as their spine and muscles become stronger and more flexible, they feel significant benefits, even from brief coaching and instruction. How much will this cost? Do you take my insurance? [Top of page] Our fees are very reasonable; in fact most of our patients pay for their own care without the help of insurance. We do however file all BCBS plans, including State Teacher plans, Medicare and Medicaid. We also file most private insurances, whether or not we are in your network. Come join us and see what we can do to help change the shape of your life. |
