Can Neuropathy Symptoms Can Be Helped?

What causes neuropathy? Why is it so painful? Can it be helped? These are just a few of the questions we here in our office almost daily. Neuropathy can be very confounding. In fact, some forms cannot be traced to a specific cause. Neuropathy pain without an known cause is called “idiopathic.” Whether you have idiopathic neuropathy or  some other kind such as diabetic, help may be available.

Neuropathy Can Be Extremely Painful

What are some of the symptoms?

  • Numbness
  • Tingling or crawling sensations in the feet or legs
  • Leg or foot pain which can be sharp or jabbing
  • Loss of coordination which may lead to falling
  • Sensitive to touch
  • Sometimes muscles can weaken

What Causes Neuropathy?

It’s No PIcnic

Often the cause is unknown. When the cause is unknown, it is called “idiopathic.” There are some known causes such as diabetes or autoimmune disorders such as MS. It can even be caused by medication. Another possible cause is B vitamin deficiency. It can be very frustrating to suffer and not know the cause or what might help. In some cases, neuropathy pain cannot be helped. Sometimes the best option is to work to keep it from getting worse. There are however, some types that respond to therapy.
